Speaker Bio:

Niwako Ogata, BVSc, PhD, DACVB

Dr. Niwako Ogata is a board-certified veterinary behaviorist and associate professor of Companion Animal Behavior at Purdue University. She completed her BVSc degree (equivalent to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree) in Japan at Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University in 1990. After several years of general practice and completing a Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare at the University of Edinburgh in 1997, she began her behavior career by opening the first private behavior clinic in Japan. After completing her Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 2007, Dr. Ogata moved to the U.S. in 2008 to complete a residency and serve as a research associate in animal behavior at Tufts University, MA. She has been at Purdue University since 2012, where she continues to pursue her interests in mental health and well-being in companion animals and translational research between the human psychiatric field and veterinary behavior.
